What does moral reconciliation and spiritual reassessment mean?

For my essay, I have to identify a spiritual reassessment or moral reconciliation in the book I am reading, the House of Seven Gables. But I can’t do that if I’m not sure what they mean. Any help would be appreciated!

Think of it as a life change…..the character is doing something, and then they have an epiphony and do something else instead.

it means that the character previously thought something about god or morality, but the events in the book changes their perspective.
