Nearly every university offers a major in philosophy. Rankings of Philosophy departments is highly correlated with rankings of schools in general. So, the Ivy League schools, the “Ivy Equivalents” and the better state universities tend to have the best programs.

Are you joking… of course! There are over 800 schools in the country that offer philosophy as a major.
There are now two sets of rankings of philosophy departments in the United States: Brian Leiter’s Philosophical Gourmet (PG) and Academic Analytics’ Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index (FSPI). Only two universities are listed in both rankings: Princeton and Rutgers. The rest are entirely different. FSPI ranks Michigan State first; PG ranks NYU first.
