Hseuh-feng gathered his monks and opened the letter in their presence. The envelope contained nothing but three sheets of blank paper. Hseuh-feng showed the paper to his monks and said, "Do you understand?" There was no answer, so Hseuh-feng said, "My prodigal son writes just what I think." When Hsuan-sha heard what happened at Hseuh-feng's monastery, he said, "My old man is in his dotage." Hsuan-sha sent a monk to his old teacher, Hseuh-feng, with a letter of greeting. Have you heard of Alan Watts? I've enjoyed listening to him a time or two. There are videos all over youtube. I can't agree with all he has to say, but it's interesting. He promoted Zen.
