How do I get over the difficulty of expressing my philosophy?
Ok so, I believe I do very well in expressing my theories and critique of philosophy on paper, since I have time to organize my thoughts and make them more precise, but, I have trouble in expressing my theory and critique of philosophy verbally. To put it simply, I draw a bit of a blank on how I want to say something or what I want to say.
My question is: How can I learn to express more of my philosophies verbally?
I got a puzzle for you… So if I were to ask you what the definition of Justice was… what do you think would take longer to explain what Justice is (in all totality)?
A series of examples or a definition? Do you know how many examples could fit under the application of a definition. Examples only express so much, so I cant totally express my theories through examples. So that is not sufficient.
“youve gotta have the right audience, people who are willing to shed our your philosophical trash are also the ones who has the same issue …”
First off, what is trash and treasure is subjective, so in all justice, I dont think you have enough reason to claim anything as trash at this point. In addition, philosophy itself is very broad and you dont know what type of philosophy I am into; thus, it is not valid for you to call it trash. In addition, before you can call anything trash, you must know the meaning of it. Tell me what the intended meaning of philosophy (not your view… the origin and purpose of philosophy)
Also, I asked how I can better express my philosophy, not how I can find people debating the same issue. How is that relative?
“It sounds to me that your have a fear of expression and the way to get over that is to not care about the right audience but to force your audience to hear you.”
First, you dont know who I am or what I am thinking, so dont generalize me, but, I would be happy to make you aware.
Second, I mentioned nothing about considering the audience, I responded to the claim of such.
Third, you must not believe there is such a case as an individual knowing the audience wants to hear what you have to say, knowing your idea intuitively, but not knowing how to express it. When you cant explain something are you expressing your fear for something?
Fourth, according to you, your audience does not choose to listen, they must be forced to listen. No one can be forced to listen, unless physical force is used. Maybe, I’m wrong, tell me how you force someone to listen, because that isnt clear to me.
Everyone is telling me what, but not why. If no one tells me why, then how can I judge the importance
Give down to earth examples.
The best way is to come up with examples of how that philosophy applies in real life and examples that others will all understand. For example, I just explained to another person on here that Plato`s allegory of the cave can be understood in terms of what it would be like for a child growing up in Nth Korea to experience the greater world and have to try to explain it to the other Nth Korean children. Verbally it is much easier to confuse your thoughts which in turn confuses others so start with a broad statement and funnel your way in to specific statements and exapmples. Give the WHOLE and then move in to parts. Also, use the power of 3. # statements, 3 examples, 3 things etc. Three is easy for people to comprehend and for you to explain. For example, there are three perspectives that make up this philosophy. The first is…
Good luck.
youve gotta have the right audience, people who are willing to shed our your philosophical trash are also the ones who has the same issue … but finding the right the people can be tasking at times … but mind you … practice makes perfect
It sounds to me that your have a fear of expression and the way to get over that is to not care about the right audience but to force your audience to hear you. If you start expressing yourself and get snagged ask them what they’ve in turn heard you say.
Firs at all, I take myself as ‘a philosopher’ (so-so) but I’m an anti-western philosophical person; however I don’t claim that the last is a trash, because I got some meanings about that philosophy (I’m a philosophy graduate hehehe). I think that the purpose of the western philosophy is to make you a skeptic one by force like the preachers at the medieval time and nowadays by audience. For instance, Descartes in his Discourse on the Method attempts to arrive at a fundamental set of principles that one can know as true without any doubt. To achieve this, he employs a method called methodological skepticism: he rejects any idea that can be doubted, and then reestablishes them in order to acquire a firm foundation for ‘genuine’ knowledge. For me his theory is not a trash, but I’m an agnostic one, so I cannot agree with him. I have my own inner-maxims that drive me to realize into my own life (some intuitivism).
Some suggestions:
First, make a schema for your fixed idea/theory in order not to draw a blank. Two, take one philosopher theory as your basis. Three, analyze another philosopher theory. Four, make some comparisons between the two philosophers (or more) and explain on your own the suspense which exists between them. Five, make, as a final work, your own estimation and critique and you should not debate the same issues of people.
Someone said you: “It sounds to me that your have a fear of expression and the way to get over that is to not care about the right audience but to force your audience to hear you.”
YOU DO THE RIGHT THING! (Like me hehehe!). You are no wrong; an audience should be an interactive place to discuss. THE WHY IS THE BEGINNING OF YOUR TRUE PHILOSOPHY! (You said above: “no one tells me why” or the whys)
