If you want to do it properly, Id still take a photograph, its easier as you can see were boundaries are, like how high up a hill is, stuff like that, then it is easier to copy. Another easy way to copy a photograph is to draw a grid on it and draw one on your paper, its easier if it is split up like that. Any of those should get you a good picture. Or you could just keep practising till you get better at drawing.
